First demonstrated in February 1989, it was initially endorsed by nine other manufacturers Aiwa, Canon, Fuji, Hitachi, Konica, Matsushita, Maxell, Sanyo and TDK.
Like S-VHS, Hi8 uses improved recorder electronics and media formulation to increase the recorded bandwidth of the luminance signal.
